Roy Lu

Roy is a graduate student in Yale’s International and Development Economics (IDE) program. Before joining Yale, he studied Economics at the University of Warwick and spent a year as an exchange student at the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE) at Xiamen University. His research interests lie broadly in development economics, particularly in rural development, education, and the labor market choices of young people. He is interested in understanding how economic conditions and institutions shape individuals’ educational and career decisions. He is also exploring how economic reasoning, and data science can be applied in the finance industry.

Alongside his academic work, Roy has remained actively involved in education. He has three years of experience working as an education consultant and economics tutor, and volunteered for two consecutive years to teach and support primary school students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Outside his academic and professional pursuits, Roy enjoys reading classical Chinese philosophy, particularly The Art of War. He has also participated in traditional lion and dragon dance performances during Lunar New Year celebrations.
